Imagine spending 4 days with a Canon Master, watching and learning as you explore a city together. The winner of the RAW Macao competition (a partnership between Expand My World and Visit Macao), Luke Mackenzie, got this amazing opportunity in Macao with Richard I’Anson. Macao is a melting pot of East and West culture, a treasure hidden in China’s southeast corner with unmissable photographic opportunities around every corner.
Luke takes us through his favourite photos from the trip and tells us the story behind each one.

Pork Man
This was one of those ‘right place right time’ photos. Richard stumbled across it and got a few shots and I followed suit. Working with the small doorway and trying not to get people walking through the shot was the challenge with this one.

Grand Lisboa
Grand Lisboa is such an iconic building in the Macao skyline. Whilst we were up at a lookout photographing the skyline of Macao you could get a great view of it. Being a bit of an architecture nerd myself, it was really cool to see it and to be able to snap a photo of it on a clear day.

Ruins of St Paul
This shot is taken in quite a busy alleyway just to the side of the Ruins of St Paul. Trying to get yourself in the right spot to get the framing you like was a bit tricky. I like this one because it showcases a little bit of the Portuguese architecture on the left, the Chinese on the right and the Ruins of St Paul in the background.

Street shot – deserted
This one would probably be my favourite of the trip, we got up pretty early to try and get the streets to ourselves. I
managed to grab a shot of this old lady walking through the empty streets. Later in the day the streets are so
much busier with people everywhere. So to have it essentially to yourself is kinda peaceful.
